Rabbit has bumble foot???!!!?
ok, so i recently bought my rabbit this new indoor rabbit hutch. the bars of the bottom are a bit far apart, so i got a timothy hay mat too. well, she destroyed it, and had to walk on the metal floor. it has a little sheltered part with a wood floor, and she spent most of her time in that once she got bumble foot. well, i think its bumble foot. the hair that used to be on her feet is gone and the skin is red and a bit swollen. when i discovered it, i was terified. i covered the metal bars with fleece and made a fleece nest in the sheltered part of the hutch. will she get better? am i healing her right? thanks
and i am NOT RETURNING THE HUTCH tooooo much trouble and all.
I would recommend a vet visit if her feet and hocks are swollen. Wire floors should never ever be used for rabbits. It's used as an excuse for having small hutches/cages so the muck falls through and lazy people don't have to clean it up so often, except it causes sore hocks and miserable bunnies.
Get the vet to check them over, if they have become infected they will need treating. Other than that, take out any metal flooring and keep her on solid floors only, just clean up after her every day and yes fleeces should be fine as long as she's not chewing them up! If your rabbit is a big chewer then blankies aren't safe!
