Brush Retains Heat
My hair won't curl...?

I have Asian stick-straight, smooth hair. The lower half is moderately damaged from dye and heat.
Before I try to curl my hair, I spray in some heat protectant. Then, I either use a round curling iron or twist my straightener around. However, when I do either of these things, my hair ends up wavy at best, and far too fluffy and dry-looking. It loses a lot of shine and what little curl it has is lost when I brush it. What am I doing wrong? Do I need a better heat protectant? Should I use a leave-in conditioner to help my hair retain more moisture? Is my curling iron just of poor quality?
Thanks in advance for your help. <3

Ok. First of all, try curling your hair on a day that you don't wash it. For instance, wash your hair on wednesday, then thursday take a shower (without getting your hair wet) and try curling it. (washing your hair everyday isnt good for you, it takes out all of the natural oils and thus is harder to work with. Second of all, try putting mousse in your hair before curling it. I'm not talking about just putting a handful of mousse in your hair. I'm talking about when you curl each individual strand put mousse in that strand and spray a bit of hairspray on it, and then curl it. Do this with every piece you curl. (Don't drench it, just get it a little wet with the mousse and hairspray) Also, you're hair is trained to be naturally straight and it wants to stay that way, so when you curl your hair your going to have to hold the iron in place longer then someone would if they had say naturally wavy hair. By the way, heat protectant isnt going to make a difference in how much your hair curls, so you're going at this at the wrong angle. So just try everything that I just said, and if it doesn't work I would suggest going into a salon and asking a beautition. Good Luck!
