are fresh eggs still safe to use being out for 24 hrs?
i totally forgot what bag they were in after grocery shopping. they were hiding with the loaf of bread i hang on the door nob of the cabinet. ( lack of space). wanted to make peanut butter cookies and thats when i discovered i did not stored the eggs inthe fridge. i know they're made of protein & probably have salminela now, but need to know. thanks for the help whom answers back.
here's what happens. in the usa, eggs shells are scrubbed clean because of concerns of salmonella. when you scrub an eggshell, the protective coating on top of eggs gets removed. that makes the shell porous and susceptable to air. thus the egg becomes perishable. that's why you have to put eggs in the refrigerator in the usa.
24 hours, is pretty long, but your risk of anything bad happening in eggs is very very slim.
in other countries, an egg doesn't get cleaned, so the protective layer on top of the shell stays intact allowing the egg to sit out at room temperature without spoiling.
